The Supremes: A Brief History

The Supremes were originally founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1959 as The Primettes.

Florence Ballard formed the group, which were originally the sister act to The Primes, alongisde Mary Wilson, Diana Ross and Betty McGlown. The group signed with Motown the following year in 1960 and Barbara Martin replaced Betty McGlown.

The Supremes were the premier act of Motown during the 1960s, one of America's most successful group during this period with 12 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

True icons of their era, they ruled the pop charts competing with the likes of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones
